The advantage of cast iron over a standard pan is the heat retention/transferring abilities of cast iron. We can preheat your cast iron pan in the oven, just like a pizza stone, giving you a hot surface to cook your pizza on. Do you love pizza? Then you are going to want to make this cast-iron skillet pizza! It is super easy to make, and most of us have these ingredients in our refrigerator or pantry.
Ingredients You Will Need:
Toppings: meat of choice, vegetables, etc.
1 tablespoon SAF Instant yeast
1 teaspoon sugar
1 cup of warm water
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 Cup of flour
¼ corm meal
In a large bowl, combine the yeast, sugar, and water. Let stand for 10 minutes or until foamy. Stir in the oil and garlic salt. Add 1 cup of flour and blend. At this point, the dough should be soft and flexible. Slowly add more flour until it is no longer sticky.
Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic. Place dough in an oiled bowl and turn twice to coat. Cover bowl with a kitchen towel or plastic wrap and set in a warm place to rise for 20 minutes, or until the dough has doubled in size.
When the dough is finished rising, Next give the dough 20 more minutes in the refrigerator. In your cast iron skillet pour one Tablespoon Olive Oil and pinch of cornmeal.
Punch down the dough and roll into a circle and place in cast iron, place the cast iron on the stove over medium heat for seven minutes. AS pizza is cooking add tomato sauce 2-3 Tablespoon, now add ¼ cup of parmesan cheese to the edge of the crust. Next, Sprinkle ¼ cup of the Mozzarella cheese. Now, start putting your favorite toppings, Pepperoni, Basil, etc. Next place pizza, on top rack with the broiler on in the oven for 2 minutes. Rest for 5 minutes, then it’s time to dive in.
